This unit is the oldest with about the 100-year experience in training of highly qualified engineers in the field of mineral and raw materials industry. Nowadays Tomsk Polytechnic University strives to develop an efficient research and education center, which will be able to conduct breakthrough research projects and provide gifted students and academic staff with all necessary conditions for creative work and study. Along with this activity, the School will train highly qualified academic staff, who can equally efficient work at both research and educational institutions and in petroleum and geology industries, and the ecological sphere. It collaborates with recognized national and international companies in petroleum and petroleum refining industries, like PJSC Gazprom, PJSC Rosneft, PJSC Transneft, PJSC Alrosa, PJSC SIBUR, Schlumberger, and others. In addition, within the framework of the state strategy in the development of the Arctic region, the School actively participates in the study of the underwater permafrost degradation, the emission of methane in the atmosphere in the areas of the Eastern Arctic.

School of Energy & Power Engineering

The School is one of the leading national and international centers in Energy and Power Engineering. Its engineering team develops solutions, ensuring efficient and reliable work of electrical power systems and grid, open and adaptable to new energy producers and consumers. The School actively collaborates with Russia and the CIS energy producers and research centers, like JSC System Operator of the United Power System, Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy System, RAO Energy Systems of the East, and others. In addition, the School is aimed to train highly qualified engineers and academic staff for different educational and research institutions. The students will be able to use modern technologies and will be equipped with advanced international experience in the field of power engineering. It pays close attention to the professional strength of its students since it understands that the modern world considerably depends on specialists in power engineering fields.

School of Nuclear Science & Engineering

The School of Nuclear Science & Engineering is one of the Russian centers of excellence in the areas of nuclear physics and hydrogen energy. The School goal is training competent engineers and academic staff in the areas of atomic and hydrogen power engineering, experimental and applied physics, new chemical, plasma, and beam technologies. The School has advanced research equipment and highly qualified academic staff. For instance, the School conducts large-scale experiments on the basis of the university nuclear research reactor (the one and only in Russia). In addition, it develops multidisciplinary technologies within the framework of the Peaceful Atom concept, including nuclear medicine, transmutational neutron alloying, isotope engineering, and thorium energy. This allows the School both to train qualified engineers and academic staff and to conduct fundamental and applied research in the areas of nuclear and radiation technology.

School of Non-Destructive Testing

The School of Non-Destructive Testing is an educational and research center, specializing in the effective use of equipment and facilities in the real sector of economy, including space instrument engineering and petroleum industry. It conducts active research in the design of compact sources of ionizing radiation for nanostructural analysis of materials, tomographic complexes, space and medical instrument engineering, sensors and fast nanoelectronics, technospheric security, and others. Solid experience, qualified staff, and advanced facility allow the School to enhance the University position in the field of non-destructive testing. It pays close attention to the training of highly qualified engineers, researchers, and teachers, who will possess advanced knowledge and skills to conduct engineering and academic works.

School of Computer Science & Robotics

The School of Computer Science & Robotics is an intellectually-saturated educational environment, related to designing IT-tech, software, and hardware for development of the digital economy. The School pays close attention to international collaboration and nowadays it established innovation and educational centers jointly with Microsoft, Hughes, SoftLine Academy, and others. It trains highly qualified engineers using world-class Bachelor degree programs, engineering Master degree, PhD programs, and advanced training and short-term education programs. In addition, the School prepares scientific and academic staff, equipped with advanced knowledge and skills allowing them to work at both universities and research centers.

Along with educational activity, it conducts national and international research and R&D projects. It is specialized in methods and algorithms for processing big data, intelligent navigation, robotic complexes for studying the resources of the World Ocean, protecting the aquatic environment, and examining the state of underwater objects and engineering structures. As results of these projects, the School regularly presents innovative products, which can be used both for batch production and in individual solutions.

School of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies

The School of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies is a leader of TPU inner ranking among the engineering schools. The unique sphere of application of university production technology is space exploration. In addition, it trains competent engineers for the State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS and conducts joint research projects on the International Space Station in the design of a 3D printer, protection of solar cells from cosmic dust, dynamic modeling of loads on the ISS lock chamber, and others.

The School pays special attention to the academic process. It is designed taking into account interests of corporation and large industrial partners  such as PAO S. P. Korolev Rocket, Space Corporation Energia, the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, JSC RUSNANO, Schlumberger and others in the area of chemical technology, biotechnology, materials science, materials technology, mechanic engineering, photon technology, and power engineering. The students will be equipped with advanced knowledge and skills in a number of fields, which makes them competitive in Russian and international markets

Research School of High-Energy Physics

The School was founded as a growth point, focused on training PhD students and implementation of fundamental breakthrough research projects. Its targeted model is aimed at enhancing fundamental education and training of specialists in the modern areas of world science and technology. The educational process is based on the implementation of integrated graduate-postgraduate programs and individualization of academic tracks.

The School conducts interdisciplinary, fundamental and pilot studies in the following areas: physics of extreme states of matter, physics of high energies, physics of charged particle beams and radiation effects, and others. The University conducts these research projects in close cooperation with the leading Russian and international scientific collaborations at the Mega-science level, including CERN, DESY, ANKA, GlueX (JLab), and others.

The center targeted model is aimed at enhancing fundamental education and training of specialists in the modern areas of world science and technology.

The School pays particular attention to educational process and academic programs, developing integrated graduate-postgraduate programs and increasing quality of specialist through individualization of education tracks.

The School trains specialists based on interdisciplinary research, including: organic chemistry, plasmonics, photonics, sensors, and pharmaceuticals, including new catalytic methods for transformation of organic compounds, target drug delivery and selective drug release systems, smart implants with predictable surface properties, materials of organic electronics, hybrid biomaterials, and highly sensitive sensory systems for bioengineering.

After the second year, students will be able to make conscious and responsible choice of their further educational track.
